April is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize for her short story “Project Fumarase.” Her debut novel, Carousel, won the International Book Award for LGBTQ fiction. Formerly a university professor of creative writing, she now teaches high school students in adapted and modified programs, and at-risk youth living in residential units.
